MSU has so many opportunities to study abroad. There are over 120 programs that you could choose from. You could go from Egypt to Antarctica to Australia. You could go to Asia. Any place that you are interested in, I definitely recommend going. It will be the best time of your life.
I worked with an international student from China for the entire semester. Those experiences allowed me to, kind of, see things from a different point of view.
The first year I came here I saw many Asian people and other like, Indian people. When I was in Japan, there were few people who were from other countries, so I didn’t have a chance to talk to American people or other foreigners. Here, there are so many international people, I have a really good chance to talk to them.
Back to topAn internship is like a summer job, where, you are working more towards what you’re learning in school. It benefits your career more than babysitting, or something like that.
I’m very excited and I think fortunate to have a job with Bank of America in New York City. I’m working in their investment banking department. The opportunities and experiences I have had here have really prepared me well. They prepared me for the interview process and got me that job.
I actually worked for the department that I now have a full-time job with Dow Chemical in Minneapolis.
My experience was in the United States Senate Finance Committee in Washington D.C. Just being around senators, sitting behind John Kerry everyday, is something I don’t think you can capture inside a classroom.
Back to topI’m taking a cultural perspectives in African-American culture class right now that’s very interesting. We listen to rap and that’s part of the assignments.
You know you always have your required classes that you have to take, and, a few of them, the professor turned it right around. The professor is a lot of the class.
I took a Greek philosophy class which, honestly, was just me meeting my requirements. But she was amazing, she knew more about the subject of Greek history than anyone I’ve ever met, and just kept you captivated.
Back to topI wanted a Big 10 school and I was looking elsewhere, Illinois and Minnesota. I came to MSU, I saw the campus, I fell in love with it. It’s gorgeous, and they also had my major.
After a few days, campus comes down to size and you really get a perspective of the people here and the type of experience you’re going to have.
Being a senior, I’ve been here for four years, and when I walk to class I can’t go more than 20 or 30 feet without bumping into someone I know.
I really like the large size because I think there are a lot of opportunities that you can get here that you might not be able to get at a smaller school.
Back to topMy grandfather went here in 1919, captain of the track team. I basically bleed green, I love it here.
MSU sports are just so awesome. It’s so much fun. I’ve been a member of the “Corner Blitz” football section for four years, a member of the “Izzone” for three years, and those have been some of the greatest times of my life.
The MSU la cross team was a really good experience because I’d never played la cross before, but they take everyone on the team, even though it’s a pretty big deal here.
Just having all the people there and the rivalry and the competition and a good natural atmosphere.
Everyone is really nice and helpful, and they just really genuinely wanted to teach me to play la cross.
It feels like a lot of fun because it is nationaly televised a lot of times, part of the big picture.
Back to topMy favorite program at Michigan State is Award Best. So that’s why I came here.
For freshman year, I would say, it was the Black Caucus. For my major, I joined Phi Epsilom Kappa that’s for Kinesiology and a volunteer group for Michigan State.
I am very involved in a student organization, it’s called “Students Consulting”, for non-profit organizations. I can honestly say, that is the best single thing that I have ever done. So this is a tremendous opportunity for us to give back to the community as students and also learn and gain tremendous leadership skills.
